Danyel Woods

Born in Tucson, Arizona, and raised through a life shaped by movement, service, and responsibility, Danyel Woods has always been a storyteller. From an early love of reading and imagination to a disciplined military career and long service within the Department of Defense, her life reflects strength forged through challenge.

In 2014, Danyel was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis, a life-altering condition that reshaped her physical abilities and deepened her creative urgency. Rather than retreat, she turned inward, to writing, as a way to process loss, preserve memory, and create meaning. Lost emerged from this season, not as escape, but as expression.

Her writing is informed by empathy for those who struggle quietly: children, animals, and adults navigating fear, isolation, and misunderstanding. Through Roman’s story, Danyel explores themes she knows intimately: endurance, resilience, and the emotional cost of being overlooked.

Danyel writes for her family, especially her grandchildren, hoping her words will travel forward through generations. Her work stands as a reminder that even when bodies weaken, voices do not. With Lost, she offers readers a story grounded in compassion, honesty, and the belief that hope, no matter how small, still matters.
